9 Mistakes World Cup Visitors Make in Atlanta (And What to Do Instead)

1. Renting a car when staying downtown

MARTA covers everything. Renting adds parking costs and match day traffic stress. Only rent if you're doing OTP day trips.

2. Arriving at the stadium too late

Gates open 2 hours before kickoff. Arrive then — not 45 minutes before. Security lines are long and roads restrict early.

3. Requesting rideshare right outside the stadium

Surge pricing activates at the final whistle. Walk 10–15 minutes from the stadium before opening the app. Saves $20–40 and 30 minutes of waiting.

4. Bringing the wrong bag

Clear bags only. Maximum 12×6×12 inches. No exceptions at the gates. Check before you leave the hotel.

5. Underestimating Atlanta's summer heat

Atlanta in July averages 90°F+ with high humidity. Carry water. Wear light clothing. Use sunscreen.

6. Assuming all Peachtree streets connect
