What is MARTA? MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) is Atlanta's public rail and bus system. It is the fastest, cheapest, and most reliable way to reach Mercedes-Benz Stadium on match days — no traffic, no parking, no surge pricing. A single ride costs $2.50 and connects Hartsfield-Jackson Airport directly to downtown Atlanta in approximately 16 minutes.

Important Tips for Atlanta Visitors
- Tipping is expected — 18–20% at restaurants and bars. Tip at coffee shops, food trucks, and hair salons too. Not optional in the US.
- Legal drinking age is 21 — carry your passport at all times if you plan to drink. Bars and restaurants will check ID regardless of how old you look.
- The stadium is cashless — card payments only inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium for food, drinks, and merchandise.
- Right turns on red are legal in Georgia unless a sign states otherwise. Be aware if you are renting a car.
- Tap water is safe to drink — Atlanta tap water meets all federal standards. No need to buy bottled water constantly.
- Georgia has strict open container laws — drinking alcohol in public outside of licensed premises or designated festival zones is illegal and enforced.
- Sales tax is not included in displayed prices — Georgia has an 8%+ combined sales tax added at checkout. Budget for it.
- Emergency number is 911 — for police, fire, and medical. Non-emergency Atlanta police line is 404-614-6544.
- ATMs charge fees — use your bank's app to find in-network ATMs and avoid $3–5 foreign transaction fees on withdrawals.
- Power outlets are Type A/B at 120V — most international visitors will need a plug adapter. Bring one from home.
- Marijuana is illegal in Georgia — Recreational cannabis is not legal statewide. Possession can result in arrest regardless of your home country or state's laws. CBD products under 0.3% THC are legal. Georgia law enforcement actively enforces these rules.

Grant Park is Atlanta's oldest city park, located about 2 miles south of downtown. Best reached by rideshare or the #31 MARTA bus. Allow a half-day for Zoo Atlanta — it is one of the most accredited zoos in the southeast and home to giant panda research.

Decatur WatchFest 26 is a free 34-day outdoor festival running June 11–July 19, 2026, organized by the City of Decatur specifically around the World Cup. MARTA Train System
The fastest way to reach the stadium
MARTA has four color-coded rail lines. All four lines meet at Five Points Station in downtown Atlanta. The Red and Gold lines run north-south. The Blue and Green lines run east-west. A single fare of $2.50 covers any journey on any line.

Red Line — Airport (ATL) → North Springs
Runs north-south through the city center. Serves the airport, downtown, Midtown, Buckhead, and Sandy Springs. Best line for most visitors.
Gold Line — Airport (ATL) → Doraville
Shares route with Red Line from Airport to Buckhead, then branches northeast toward Doraville. Interchangeable with Red Line for most journeys.
Blue Line — Hamilton E. Holmes → Indian Creek
Runs east-west through downtown. Stops at SEC District Station — the closest station to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Green Line — Bankhead → Edgewood/Candler Park
Runs east-west, slightly north of the Blue Line. Stops at Vine City — a 10-minute walk to the stadium, useful as an alternative exit route after matches.

What is the Breeze Card? MARTA's reloadable transit card — like an Oyster card (London) or Suica (Tokyo). Tap it at any fare gate. Each ride costs $2.50.

Follow this plan and your match day will be smooth. Skip it and you risk traffic, wrong bags, and surge pricing.
4–5 hours before kickoff
- Arrive downtown early — traffic around the stadium builds hours before kickoff.
- Take MARTA rail. Closest stations: SEC District Station and Vine City Station.
- Load your Breeze card on the new Breeze app before you leave.
- Check your bag against the clear bag policy before leaving your hotel.
TIP: Download your ticket now. Cell service near the stadium gets congested on match days.
3 hours before kickoff
- Grab food or drinks before heading to the stadium gates.
- Best areas: Centennial Olympic Park District, Castleberry Hill, Downtown Peachtree corridor.
- Avoid restaurants immediately next to the stadium — packed and slow on match days.
TIP: Many Atlanta bars show pre-match coverage. Arrive early for atmosphere and good seats.
2 hours before kickoff
